Perform a Mozart Concerto!
Burlington Chamber Orchestera

You've practiced them forever, listened to recordings, played them for auditions and recitals, now is your chance to perform with an orchestra. The NE Horn Workshop in Plattsburgh is providing the unique opportunity for ANYONE to hire the Burlington Chamber Orchestra with Bill Purvis conducting the Mozart Concerto of your choice on Saturday afternoon the 17th.
The orchestra costs $350 for ten minutes which may be enough for a first movement. For a complete concerto, we recommend 20 minutes for numbers 1 and 2, and 30 minutes for numbers 3 and 4. The BCO and Maestro Purvis will all be in concert dress, the performance will take place in the beautiful Giltz Auditorium at the SUNY Plattsrbugh campus and you are free to make an audio and or video recording of your performance.
The orchestra will only play for 3 hours, this is a first come, first served event, please contact Ann Ellsworth at ellsworth.ann@gmail.com.
CONCERTO COMPETITION
20 minutes of the Burlington Chamber Orchestra time will be reserved for the winners of our solo competition, 10 minutes for our high school division and another 10 minutes for our college division. The concerto competition will take place Friday afternoon and details to enter are on the website.
FRIDAY NIGHT RECITAL
Bill Purvis and RJ Kelley will share the stage on our opening night in Giltz Auditorium featuring new works, solo works, and natural horn pieces which promise to inspire. The two artists will also be judges in the concerto competition that afternoon and will be holding masterclasses during the weekend.
PEDAGOGY
With the passing of Verne Reynolds this past summer, we recognize an era or teaching has passed. How teaching and what we teach has changed and needs to change will be the topic of our panel discussion. Several of our regions leading teachers and professors will meet to discuss, take questions from the audience and share what is working and what is not as they prepare today's students for the rapidly changing world of live music.
VERNE-A-THON
In honor of the Mr. Reynold's enormous contribution to the horn repertoire, we will have a recital featuring his solo pieces, etudes, chamber music, original compositions and transcriptions and yes, the intonation excerises. The second generation of music inspired by Verne's writing will also be included.
Featured performers include the
Starlight Horn Duo - premiering Lydia Busler-Blais' brand-new multi-movement work
Mysterium representing the Reynolds grand tradition of hornist-as-composer.
A complete listing of the program will be featured on our website as the program is organized. The Verne-A-Thon will be held in Krenovitz recital hall and will run concurrently with other events.
ALPHORN ENSEMBLE
The New York Horn Ensemble will be appearing at this year's conference and Virginia Benz will be giving instruction and discussion of repertoire in the designated "alphorn room" during the conference. The Ensemble's will have scheduled appearances and also unscheduled appearances, i.e., when you least expect it, expect it. The Ensemble will also be premiering a new work with Ensemble member and bell ringer Ann Ellsworth entitled, "More Cowbell."
GENGHIS BARBIE
Need we say more? The Barbies are back and the featured ensemble for our Saturday night concert in Giltz Auditorium.
WAGNER TUBA INTENSIVE
Associate Principal Horn of the National Symphony Orchestra and Wagner Tuba specialist Laurel Ohlson will be on hand to answer every question you wanted to know about the Wagner Tuba but were afraid to ask. She will be instructing and introducing the instrument in the designated "Wagner Tuba Room" where we will have a full complement of 2 F's and 2 Bb's to be tried and enjoyed and maybe, just maybe, even rehearsed....
HORN CHOIR
Everyone is invited to play as Danielle Kuhlmann will rehearse us daily (after our group warm up) in Giltz Auditorium and prepare us for our final concert on Sunday afternoon. Educational and inspiring, the Horn Choir will no doubt leave a permanent mark on this quiet, upstate town.
