time in the music profession.
Rules
Note: Competition registration is now closed!
Candidates need to be fully registered participants at
NEHW. There is no additional competition fee.
Repertoire/Accompanists
Candidates in both categories should prepare:
- First movement of any Mozart concerti, and
- First movement of R. Strauss Concerto No.1 OR F. Strauss Concerto
And for Collegiate Students ONLY, please also prepare:
- One unaccompanied solo piece.
You must perform with accompaniment for Mozart and Strauss. You may bring your own
pianist or use a NEHW pianist. The fee for using a NEHW pianist is $25 paid along with your
registration fee.
Rounds
There will be two rounds for each division, preliminary and final. In both rounds, the
judges reserve the right to dismiss any candidate at any time for any reason. Since repertoire is
the choice of the candidate, it is recommended that you choose work(s) that you can perform
well that are not beyond your technical and musical abilities at this time. Please be aware that
the judging panel includes world renowned soloists who are expecting to hear people play well.
Schedule
Preliminary rounds will be held the afternoon of Friday, March 16, 2012. You will be
informed of your audition (and rehearsal) time upon arrival at the Festival. Final rounds will
be held in the early evening of the same day. If using an NEHW pianist, you must arrive early
on Friday if you wish to rehearse. Our pianists are very familiar with the horn repertoire so
performing without a rehearsal should not be a cause for concern.
Prize
The winner(s) will receive a 10 minute spot (worth $350!!!) to perform the first
movement of a Mozart concerto with the Burlington Chamber Orchestra conducted by William
Purvis. The concert will be held in the afternoon of Saturday, March 17, 2012. GOOD LUCK!
